Deborah
H. Crumbaker-Oldham began drawing
and painting as a child when she was growing up in Las Cruces,
New Mexico. Her love for the desert mountains and horses in
particular gave her inspiration for the dominant themes she
did as a teenager. Although she wanted to be an artist she traveled
a different path of training as a Medical Laboratory Technician
and then later medical schooling and Pathology. Her ability
to see patterns and appreciate subtle colors aided her in her
work as an MD Pathologist. Now as a grandmother and semi-retired
professional she is embarking on the path she always wished
to follow.
She
is a member of the Brazos Valley Arts League and has shown her
works through the juried shows of the BVAL and the Texas State
Lone Star Art Guild. In May of 2002 her work Red Cliffs won
a Blue Ribbon (1st place) in Division IV and Unicorn of the
Woods, a mixed media piece, won a Red Ribbon (2nd place). Currently
she is studying under the auspices of Tim Vanya, renowned figure
painter. Although she currently favors working in acrylic paints
she has recently begun working in oils as well.
Her
painted ceramic tiles are featured not only on her own website
but also at CafeAnnick.com, another website for artists of all
types. The predominant theme on her tiles is currently a nine
pointed star, which is a symbol associated with the Bahai
Faith. She has been a follower of Bahaullah, a Bahai,
since 1970. Its universal themes of oneness of religions, unity
and equality of races and sexes is a source of inspiration and
guidance for her.
